Deon was a friendly, happy-go-lucky individual who was always smiling. He had a great sense of humour and an air of mischief about him and could always be relied on to make his friends and family smile with a joke or a witty comment.

A memorial service was held for Deon Astle at the Vryheid Suid Oos Kerk last Friday and was well attended by his loved ones as well as former members of the Northern Natal Commandos, South African Police, the Stocktheft Unit, the K9 Unit and several other sectors of law enforcement to which Deon had dedicated a large part of his life.

He is survived by his wife, Amanda, and two children, Carmen Astle Ellis and JC Astle.
