CAUTION: Protest action simmering near the R103 in Estcourt (video and photos)

The T-junction near the R103 was the scene of another service delivery protest this morning.

Dozens of disgruntled residents gathered early this morning and blocked the road off with tyres and tree branches, which were then set alight. Large rocks were also placed along the road surface.

A trusted source known to the Estcourt News confirmed that there is an on-going protest along the R103.

According to the source, the protest is regarding water issues and added that UThukela District Municipality has been notified and says the matter will be resolved by today.

A witness on scene said there was a massive amount of debris on the road at about 7am. Currently, police are on scene.

Traffic is being diverted at Estcourt Hospital and at the N3. Motorists are urged to avoid the area as reports of vehicles being stoned are filtering through.

 

There have also been reports of a service delivery protest along the Frere road, outside Estcourt.
