Ladysmith’s little ones learn about the importance of books and reading

All parents are encouraged to join the library and to focus on improving their child’s language skills through the medium of books

World Book Day is set aside every year to celebrate reading, books, authors and illustrators. It’s marked in more than 100 countries around the world and is celebrated for the 20th time this year.

Edukidz once again joined in the celebration, encouraging little ones to read and adopt a love for books.

Reading forms an integral part of a learner’s academic performance.

Children who don’t read for pleasure are among those learners who perform weaker academically. It must be remembered that you need to read in order to learn. Reading also has a multitude of other benefits and adds to the development of a child as a whole.

Every Edukidz learner was and is encouraged to become a bookworm, and enjoyed a day where books were the focus of the day.

This year, the Grade R learners enacted a special story, were made aware of the physical structure of a book, were again shown how to turn the pages in a book, had the opportunity to “read” a variety of books and went home with a special message that “reading is fun”.

Parents are continually encouraged to invest “time” in their children’s education and not just “money”.

According to the school, the preconception of “I pay school fees, you must teach my child” is very third world and irresponsible!

All parents are encouraged to join the library and to focus on improving their child’s language skills through the medium of books. Reading is not considered to be homework – it is fun and should be a hobby since the benefits are immeasurable!

Edukidz reinforces the following: “A school and a home without books is like a room without a window…”
