Dumpsite community bring grievances to their councillor
With their issues having come to their councillor’s attention, these community members seemed positive that change will follow.
IN AN attempt to put out the flames of anger raging among protesters in her ward, Ward 8’s councillor, Magda Viktor, took to the dumpsite community to listen to their complaints first hand.
“These are my people and I need to avail myself and listen to whatever it is their issues are,” said Cllr Viktor.
Members of the dumpsite said that they were dissatisfied with the way sub-contractors had hired some of the people working on the dumpsite-fencing project.

“We were told that there would be transparency and fairness when people were getting hired, yet the sub-contractors did not even notify us when they were hiring,” said these community members.
Cllr Viktor said that she would look into how the sub-contractors were choosing the people they were hiring.
These community members also voiced being worried about how the fencing of the dumpsite was going to impact their lives as they often went to the dumpsite to seek food, and were now afraid that this would not be possible, as the dumpsite is being fenced and they would be locked out.

“I will bring this matter to the attention of the municipality and make them understand that the community relies on the dumpsite for certain resources, thereafter we will see how they can ensure that the community still has access, or at least has other means of getting food,” she responded.
