Stations of the cross procession in town

This procession has now been held annually for the last 35 years.

On Good Friday, St Thomas More Catholic Church held their annual “Stations of the Cross” procession through the centre of Vryheid, which was joined by more than 100 parishioners from both Catholic and other Churches in town who wished to experience and meditate on Jesus Way of the Cross.

This procession has now been held annually for the last 35 years and was introduced at the old settlement outside of Vryheid at Besterspruit by the Silk family to bring attention to the Church of the plight of their people, who lived in that area under dreadful conditions, at that time.

When Lakeside was eventually developed, the Besterspruit residents were re-housed and they then continued holding this procession annually through the streets of Lakeside until, two years ago, when it was moved to town.

The procession was held under the watchful care of the Traffic Department whom the Church would like to thank for their efficient and friendly guidance during the procession.

It is hoped that next year we can encourage even more members of the Christian community and other faiths to join us on this meditative journey with Christ in a spirit of Unity.
