Newcastle Municipality welcomed a new member to Council during the first meeting of 2016, held on January 27.

Balungile Radebe was inaugurated as a traditional leader in the presence of fellow councillors and members of the Executive Committee.

Magistrate, Alexandra Hills officiated the proceedings, as Ms Radebe swore to serve the community she represents without fear or favour.

She was identified by CoGTA in 2014 as iBambabukhosi for the amaHlubi traditional community in the Amajuba District, as contemplated in section 30(3) of the KwaZulu-Natal Traditional Leadership and Governance Act of 2005.

Ms Radebe promised to carry forward the mandate given to her by Council, in line with the vision and mission of the municipality.

Council welcomes its newly elected member, and believes her contributions will prove invaluable.
