Collision round-up: One dead; two injured.

A 76-year-old. man was fatally injured when he was run over by a light motor vehicle on the P483 between Madadeni and oSizweni at about 8.30pm on the night of January 29.

Elderly man dies when run over

A 76-year-old. man was fatally injured when he was run over by a light motor vehicle on the P483 between Madadeni and oSizweni at about 8.30pm on the night of January 29.

He was allegedly on his way home, which was a few metres away from the place were the incident took place.

ER24 paramedics declared the man dead on scene.

ER24 spokesperson, Jan Henk van Vuuren, and also an eyewitness said: “I was travelling towards Newcastle when the car passed me. After that I heard a loud bang and something flew into the air.”

The driver of the vehicle was unharmed.

Officials were present on the scene, including a forensics team. The cause of the incident is unknown and the case remains subject to police investigation.

Pedestrian struck by car on R34

A pedestrian was allegedly run over by a light motor vehicle on the R34, between Newcastle and Utrecht at about 3pm on Saturday afternoon.

“The patient is in a serious condition and sustained a broken leg and head injuries,” said ER24 spokesperson, Jan Henk van Vuuren.

ER24 paramedics treated the man on the scene, whereafter he was taken to hospital in a stable, but serious condition.

The driver of the motor vehicle was reportedly uninjured.

Officials were on the scene to conduct further investigations.

The road was affected for approximately 45 minutes before it was cleared for traffic.

Motorists flee scene after collision

Two light motor vehicles collided at the intersection of Drakensberg Drive and HJ van Eck Drive at about 5pm on Saturday, January 30.

According to ER24 paramedics, one patient with moderate injuries was taken to the Madadeni Provincial Hospital for medical treatment.

“The patient was a passenger of one of the vehicles,” said Jan Henk van Vuuren, ER24 spokesperson.

Allegedly one of the drivers failed to stop a red traffic light, and both drivers fled the scene and abandoned their vehicles.

Officials were on site to conduct preliminary investigations.

Further investigations into the incident will continue.
