Aspirant soccer stars show their prowess

For the Royal Hearts team, this tournament was highly anticipated and the highlight of their school holiday

Estcourt’s Royal Hearts Soccer Club took on the Pietermaritzburg Pirates in a mini-soccer tournament hosted by Oxson’s Security.

On Saturday, the players, their coaches and supporters made their way to Lambert Park, where the cold failed to dampen the high spirits.

The day kicked off at about 9.30am with the under 13-year-old boys taking to the field. Thereafter, the under 15-year-old boys played and capping off the tournament, the under 17-year-olds.

For the Royal Hearts team, this tournament was highly anticipated and the highlight of their school holiday. With the intensive training put in and the amazing skills they displayed on the day, Coach Fabian Meyers was very proud.

The games concluded with refreshments and a prize giving ceremony. From the loud cheers and applause from the side lines, it was evident that the day was enjoyed all.

Medals and trophies were handed out to appreciate the sportsmanship and victory of the winning teams. The organisers pass a heartfelt thanks to everyone who attended and assisted in making the day a success.

Scores: 
Under 13 – Royal Hearts 0 – 2 Pirates.
Under 15 – Royal Hearts 6 – 3 Pirates.
Under 17 – draw 1 – 1.
Penalties – Royal Hearts 4 – 5 Pirates.
