If you’ve heard this, or went so far as to say it, afford me the opportunity to prove you wrong!

Here’s 7 places in Newcastle to visit this holiday:

1. Fort Amiel: If you’re into history and all the ‘wonders of war’, popping in at Fort Amiel is a must! Nothing is more important than embracing and appreciating the struggles others endured in their fight for freedom and equality.

Side note: If you’re a fan of the supernatural, rumour has it the buildings are haunted!

2. Blackrock Casino: You don’t have to have Lady Luck on your side to enjoy all the casino has to offer. With weekly shows, and fine dining, there’s something for everyone. Add some spice to your festive season plans at Blackrock – you won’t regret it!

3. Town Hall: Have you seen the beauty of Town Hall by night? If you’re feeling sentimental, take a few friends along and bask in the majesty that is the epicentre of our town.

Side note: It’s probably best not to go alone.

4. Newcastle Mall: Nothing beats the blues like retail therapy! Take a break and enjoy all the mall has to offer. If you have little ones, there are awesome holiday programmes for children almost every day- two birds with one stone!

Side note: Be sure to pay you water and lights account before blowing your bucks!

5. Pint and Pigout: If you’re looking for a way to spend your Saturday, pig out at the Pint. The relaxed vibe is all you need to wind down after a year of hustling and bustling.

6. Vulintaba Golf Course: If you’re thinking of getting in a round of golf this festive season, be sure to visit the plush greens of Vulintaba. The lengthy drive is well worth it. If you’re not a fan of golf, there’s lots more to do. Test out their hiking and cycling trials, while beating the Christmas bulge at the same time.

7. O’Neil’s Cottage: Visit O’Neils Cottage in what was once referred to as ‘no man’s land’. The cottage is situated along the Majuba Pass, and is considered one of the town’s greatest historical sites. How’s that for throwback Thursday?
