Chilly swim for charity in the Drakensberg

The swim always takes place on the Saturday closest to the winter solstice

177 brave swimmers took part in the Drakensberg Polar Bear Swim Challenge on Saturday at noon at the Dragon Peaks Dam in Cathkin Park in the central Drakensberg.

The temperature was 11°C. Swimmers set off one by one. No wet suits were allowed.

Dave McFie of Estcourt Animal Shelter, Lily Furniss of Khetani Animal Rescue in Winterton, Stan Kozlowski from the 8 Mile Club and Ann Gray, the organiser. The 8 Mile Club gave a substantial donation to the two charities.

Funds raised and food collected went to two local animal projects, namely the Estcourt Animal Shelter and Khetani Animal Rescue in Winterton.
