Lightning conductors installed in Roosboom

This is in response to a string of lightning strikes which have destroyed property in Roosboom in recent weeks

uThukela District Municipality Deputy Mayor NW Sibiya has welcomed the installation of lightning conductors in Roosboom.

This area is one of the most prone to lightning strikes and natural disasters.

“Lightning is a big threat to our communities, especially in this district. As government, we have gone to great lengths to ensure that public facilities and schools have lightning conductors installed so we can protect our learners and members of the public,” said the deputy mayor.

This is in response to a string of lightning strikes which have destroyed property in Roosboom in recent weeks.

According to the deputy mayor, the installation of lightning conductors is crucial for the protection of rural communities which have borne the brunt of extreme weather conditions across the province.

The installation of lightning conductors is specifically targeted at rural communities and the municipality is ensuring that public spaces such as community halls, clinics and schools have lightning conductors installed, especially in high-risk areas.

uThukela District also provided temporary shelter to the families affected by this phenomenon in the area.
