EDWILL Meiring scored a double win last Saturday.

Second team Coach for Vryheid Rugby Club, Eddy, as he is affectionately known at the club, was elated by his squad’s monumental win on Saturday afternoon against Sentraal for a place in next week’s NNRU final. And then he received a phone call…

Edwill Meiring, owner of Eddy's Butchery, was crowned the 'King of Biltong' at the 2016 Biltongfees at Battlefields Lodge in Dundee.

Eddy’s eyes lit up and he could barely contain his joy as he received the news that Eddy’s Butchery, a well known butchery in Vryheid belonging to Meiring, had been crowned winners of the Biltongfees for 2016.

“We won!” he exclaimed, overjoyed at the news. “We won!” he repeated, with hugs and high fives all round.

Deon Van der Merwe, who was representing Eddy’s Butchery at the Biltongfees held at the Battlefields Country Lodge in Dundee over the weekend, along with Tracy Kruger and the rest of the team, described the secret to their success with just one word.

“Teamwork,” said Deon.

Teamwork! And here's some of the team from Eddy's Butchery: Maryna Swanepoel, Tracey Kruger, Deon Van Der Merwe, Rieg Verster, Ilse Verster, Nokuthula Zungu and Lindiwe, with the trophy.

“At Eddy’s we work as a team and that’s very important, especially for good customer service,” he added and, with thirty years of experience in the industry, it’s probably safe to assume that Deon knows what he’s talking about.

“It was such an amazing feeling when they announced that we had won,” said Tracey. “That was the best feeling.”

Eddy’s Butchery staff would like to thank all who supported them, “Without our loyal customers and everyone who supported us, none of this would have been possible.”
