Vryheid SPCA adoption fees increase

"PETTING, scratching, and cuddling a dog could be as soothing to the mind and heart as deep meditation and almost as good for the soul as prayer." - Dean Koontz.

“PETTING, scratching, and cuddling a dog could be as soothing to the mind and heart as deep meditation and almost as good for the soul as prayer.” – Dean Koontz.

Vryheid SPCA has several cats and dogs available for adoption. Adopting a pet from the SPCA means that you do not pay for the animal itself, but only for a percentage of what it costs to have it sterilized, vaccinated and dewormed. Inevitable increases in veterinary service fees, necessitated a rise in the adoption fees.

“The increase may seem drastic, but our fees remained static for several years,” stated Natalie Meyer, Vryheid SPCA’s Treasurer, on social media. “In comparison with buying a pet and having it sterilized and inoculated privately, you will find our prices are still very low.”

From June 1, the adoption fees are as follows: Small female dog (eg Yorky or Jack Russell ) R950, Medium female dog (eg Sheep dog, Staffie) R1000, Large female dog (eg German Shepherd) R1050, Extra large female dog (eg Great Dane) R1340, Small male dog R620, Medium male dog R680, Large male dog R720, Extra large male dog R820, Female cat R680 and

Male cat R420. Adoption fees for poultry, farm animals and fish will be published at a later date.

A donation of R60 will be appreciated when taking animals to the SPCA to be euthanised.
