Reeds take over as water leaks out of pipe for 4 years

Mrs Sadan says the pipe burst about four years ago and has never been fixed

It’s been four years now that Ruth Sadan has been laying complaints with uThukela District Municipality about a burst pipe in her yard in First Avenue, Limit Hill.

The burst pipe is on municipal property that runs through Mrs Sadan’s yard. She says that so much water has leaked out that a whole “bush” of reeds has sprung up over time.

Mrs Sadan says the pipe burst about four years ago and has never been fixed.

“The water that leaks from the pipe results in reeds growing in my yard. This is a problem we shouldn’t even be dealing with. It is also not safe, as it attracts snakes into our yard. The yard itself ends up looking like a swamp,” fumes Mrs Sadan.

She urges the municipality to come and fix the pipe, and put an end to this seemingly endless problem which is not only an eyesore but also poses a danger to her and her family.
