HEATWAVE: 7 ways to beat the heat

How are you keeping [your] cool this spring?

With daytime highs ranging from 36 to you’re about to die degrees, it near impossible not to lose your cool.

Unless you have 60 air conditioners running simultaneously, chances are you’re feeling hot and bothered.

Here’s seven ways to keep cool during the heatwave:

1. Sip on infused water: Add in your favourite fruit and you’re good to go. On the plus side, infused water is super healthy!

2.Keep the curtains closed: Whether you’re at the office, or at home, keep ’em closed. While it doesn’t make a huge difference, it gives you an excuse to stay outdoors. What more could you ask for?

3. Sleep alone: Sorry spooners! The occasional spring cuddle just isn’t going to happen this year. The last thing you wake is to wake up smelling like a gym sock. Is cuddling really worth it?

4. Take a cold shower: Pretty simple, huh? The idea of an ice cold shower takes on new meaning come summertime. Get in there!

5. Turn off the lights: With Eskom implementing load shedding on a daily basis, this shouldn’t be a problem! Remember, even the most environmentally friendly light bulbs give off heat.

6. Soak your feet: Fill a bucket or basin with cold water and soak your feet. Take a load off, and catch up on the latest episode of the Big Bang Theory while you cool down. Ladies, if you’re not up to doing it yourself, your nearest salon might be able to help you out. Any excuse for an impromptu spa day, right?

7. Stay hydrated: Are you thirsty? Keep a bottle of water at hand at all times. Keep an eye on children and the rest of your family and make dehydration a proverbial game the whole family can play.
