Brake for roadworks

A portion of the N11 will become a stop-and-go until next year.

A portion of the N11 will become a stop-and-go until next year.

From now until January 2016, the section between the Allen Street intersection and the Dannhauser turn-off will be a 24-hour detour for motorists.

Safety officer for Taupele Construction, Dexter Haai elaborated.

The company has been tasked with the rehabilitation of this section of the N11, which will include removing the existing tar layer, replacing and sealing the road surface.

Mr Haai suggested the inconvenience will be limited.

“Over Christmas, the road will be open, from December 16 until January 5. There will be no construction during this time.”

Explaining the decision to create a stop-and-go, Mr Haai said it was generally unsafe to close a single lane, owing to reduced traffic flow.

He added lane closure was considered more dangerous.

This is due to a reported frequency of collisions, as well as the danger posed to construction workers by passing motorists.

“We ask motorists to be patient during this time.”
