A close call for Wicket Wasps' opening batsman, Juan Booyens, as the ball just slips through the fingers of Mr X's always animated Clifford Dougherty at slip, much to the disbelief of bowler, Johan Pollard and wicket keeper, Duvan Grobbelaar.
CRICKET teams braved the sweltering heat on Sunday in two fiery Kennedy Cup 40 Over matches.
A close call for Wicket Wasps’ opening batsman, Juan Booyens, as the ball just slips through the fingers of Mr X’s always animated Clifford Dougherty at slip, much to the disbelief of bowler, Johan Pollard and wicket keeper, Duvan Grobbelaar.
At Cecil Emmett, Mr X batted first against Wicket Wasps and amassed a good 263 all out in the 40th over. A noteworthy century from Freedom Buthelezi (106) and 54 from Jean Botha were the main contributors to their total. The pick of the bowlers for Wicket Wasps were Connor High (7-0-55-3) and Andrew Brooks (8-1-40-2).
Wicket Wasps started off well with a remarkable opening partnership between Tiaan Naudè (79) and Juan Booyens (65). The team was, however, eventually dismissed for only 185 runs in the 26th over. Best bowling for Mr X came from Duvan Grobbelaar (4-1-14-5) and Jean Botha (3-0-23-2). Mr X won by 68 runs.
Stefan Jordaan takes a catch off the batting of Kyle Taylor, claiming the wicket for Wasp bowler, Connor High.
Watch Mr X cool down while keeping score…
The other match was played in Dumbe, where the Gladiators batted first and were bowled out for 109 in the 26th over, thanks to competent and efficient bowling from Zane Holiday (7-0-27-4) and Rupert Beneke (8-1-42-3). Thulani Zondo (33) and Leon Zwane (22) were the top run scorers for Gladiators.
Dumbe made easy work of reaching the target without losing either of their opening batsmen, Charl Beneke (58) and Marcel Hinze (54). They passed the target in the 13th over, winning by 10 wickets.
The final Kennedy Cup 40 Over match will be played in Dumbe this coming Sunday between Dumbe and Wicket Wasps.
Mr X fielder, Clifford Dougherty and wicket keeper, Johan Pollard, witness the absolute decimation of Wasp, Dean Venter’s wicket by Mr X bowler, Charl Van Den Berg.

16 Aug 2012, South Sudan — One of the few proper toilets is seen at the refugee camp in Yida, South Sudan, Aug. 16, 2012. Sudanese refugees are facing an unprecedented humanitarian disaster with an average of five children dying per day in the Yida camp in Unity State, home to 55,000 refugees, according to data from MSF. People are dying from diarrhea and malaria, which are spreading through the refugee camp and creating a health catastrophe. There are not enough toilets, fresh water or adequate sanitation in the camp. These conditions are causing diseases to spread rapidly and have created, in recent months, one of the worst emergency health situations in the world. — Image by © John Stanmeyer/VII/Corbis
