Ladysmith lass narrowly misses out on finals at Olympic Games

Despite missing out on running in the finals, she truly did her hometown proud

Former Ladysmith lass Carina Horn finished her Rio Olympic Games 2016 ranked 6th in the 100m sprint. A truly impressive feat!

Despite missing out on running in the finals, she truly did her hometown proud.

She competed in the top-ranked heat 9 with a time of 11.32, ranked 18th overall, finishing second in her heat. In the semi-finals, all those who qualified for the finals finished in sub-11 times, with Carina managing a respectable 11.20, ranked 6th in her race.

While Carina spends half the year competing in Europe, she still calls South Africa her home for the rest of the year.

Carina’s father, Vincent Horn, still resides in Ladysmith, as do her 2 aunts (from her mother’s side). Her aunts are Magda Snyman, who is the branch manager of the Ladysmith post office, and Christa Snyman.

Carina was born in Ladysmith in 1989. She went to Haas Das Pre-Primary School and from there to Monument Primary until the middle of Grade 6 (June 2000).

Her mom Annatjie Marais, Carina and her brother Rudie moved to Birchleigh Kempton Park, where Carina completed Grade 12 at Birchleigh Hoërskool in 2007.
