LOVE YOUR DOG? Send us photos of your dog for National Dog Day!

E-mail us your favorite photo of your beloved dogs and stand a chance to win!

August 26th is National Dog Day and serves as a day for the public to recognise the number of dogs that need to be rescued from the street and adopted from shelters each year.

The day is set to pay tribute to loyal family dogs who work selflessly each day to save lives, keep us safe and bring comfort.

Dogs put their lives on the line every day – for their law enforcement partner, for their blind companion, for a child who is disabled, for our freedom and safety by detecting bombs and drugs and pulling victims of tragedy from wreckage.

E-mail us photos of your beloved dogs, and we will feature your photos in our online photo galleries on National Dog Day.

Newcastle Advertiser will also be  running a competition to find the best Dog Day photo. The winner of the photo competition will receive two bracelets with their dog’s name on it.

Send your photos via email to sam@caxton.co.za

“The only creatures that are evolved enough to convey pure love are dogs and infants.”
—Johnny Depp

“I think dogs are the most amazing creatures; they give unconditional love. For me, they are the role model for being alive.”
—Gilda Radner

“If you pick up a starving dog and make him prosperous he will not bite you. This is the principal difference between a dog and man.”
― Mark Twain

“Dogs are our link to paradise. They don’t know evil or jealousy or discontent. To sit with a dog on a hillside on a glorious afternoon is to be back in Eden, where doing nothing was not boring–it was peace.”
― Milan Kundera

“A person can learn a lot from a dog, even a loopy one like ours. Marley taught me about living each day with unbridled exuberance and joy, about seizing the moment and following your heart. He taught me to appreciate the simple things-a walk in the woods, a fresh snowfall, a nap in a shaft of winter sunlight. And as he grew old and achy, he taught me about optimism in the face of adversity. Mostly, he taught me about friendship and selflessness and, above all else, unwavering loyalty.”
― John Grogan, Marley and Me

With eye upraised his master’s look to scan,
The joy, the solace, and the aid of man:
The rich man’s guardian and the poor man’s friend,
The only creature faithful to the end.

George Crabbe
