New mayoral candidate for uThukela

Siphiwe Mazibuko set to replace Dudu Mazibuko as mayor of uThukela

The ANC has announced its mayoral candidates contesting this year’s municipal elections. The announcement was made by ANC Secretary-General Gwede Mantashe.

This is the first time the ANC is making the names of its mayoral candidates public.

While Emnambithi/Ladysmith remains in the strong grip of current mayor Vincent Madlala, district mayor Dudu Mazibuko has fallen out of favour at uThukela District Municipality and will be replaced with former ANC Regional Secretary Siphiwe Mazibuko (current uThukela PR candidate and uThukela Exco member).

It is doubtful if there will be any change when the old Indaka Municipality is officially absorbed into the old Emnambithi/Ladysmith Municipality to become Alfred Duma Municipality. The number of councillors will increase to 72 after the merge, which is expected to take place after the elections.

Dudu Mazibuko is officially on her way out and no indication has been given by the ANC whether she will be moved to province or national parliament or if she has been sidelined altogether.
