5 nabbed for possession of drugs

The suspects all face charges of being in possession of drugs and have appeared in the Ladysmith Magistrate's Court

5 people were arrested for being in possession of illegal substances in the Ladysmith area on Monday.

Two men, aged 23 and 26, were arrested in Rangoon Road after being found in possession of heroin straws and mandrax tablets.

100 straws and 10 mandrax tablets were recovered. The combined estimated street value of the drugs is over R3000.

A little later in the day two women, aged 49 and 69, were found in possession of dagga.

They were arrested while walking along the roadway close to the taxi rank. They were each carrying bags with them. The recovered dagga in their possession weighed in at approximately 4kg and has an estimated street value of around R6000.

In the late afternoon, a 60-year-old man was arrested while using public transport. He was travelling on the Helpmekaar road when police stopped the vehicle he was travelling in. He was arrested with just over 12kg of dagga.

The estimated street value of the dagga is around R17,000.

The suspects all face charges of being in possession of drugs and appeared in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court yesterday (Tuesday).
