Pasop at traffic lights

WHEN DRIVING in town lock your doors and keep your car’s windows up as far as is comfortably possible.

A Vryheid resident, a woman, was driving in town last Friday, and when she stopped at the traffic lights on the corner of Mark and President streets, a man approached her with something he apparently wanted to sell.

She was alone in her car.

While distracted by the man at her window, another man on the passenger side of the car tried to open her doors, which fortunately were locked.

What they were after is obviously not known.

They might have been after the woman’s handbag and other possessions.

The man might have climbed into the car, let his accomplice in, and instructed the woman to drive to a destination of their choice.

But her doors were locked.

That has not stopped thieves in the past from smashing the car’s window to grab what is visible on the seats.

The moral?

Drive with your doors locked, and don’t put your valuables on the seats where they can be seen and reached.
