Update: Seven alleged ‘hit-men’ to appear in Bergville Court

The suspects will be further investigated to ascertain if they can be linked to other attacks in the area

Seven alleged taxi ‘hit-men’ will appear in the Bergville Magistrate’s Court today (Thursday).

An elite team of officers arrested five men in Gauteng on Monday. They and another two suspects face charges of attempted murder, while one of the five is charged for murder.

The five men recently arrested were found together in a house in the Sebokeng area, Gauteng.

During the arrests, police seized an unlicensed Vektor Z88 pistol and 18 rounds of ammunition, as well as explosives.

The Uthukela Cluster Crime Intelligence Unit played a vital role in the tracing of the five suspects believed to be involved in cases of murder and attempted murder in the Stulwane area of Bergville.

The cases are linked to the ongoing taxi war between the Nyoka / Hlongwane (Dladla) families that resulted in attacks and murders from December 2015 to May 2016.

Faction fights are ongoing in the Stulwane reserve.

The suspects will be further investigated to ascertain if they can be linked to other attacks in the area. The recovered firearm will be taken for ballistic testing to determine if it was used in the attacks.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bhekinkosi Langa, applauded police on their dedication in tracking down the suspects in their hideout. “Investigators will thoroughly investigate the cases so that they can send fully prepared dockets to court for prosecution,” he said.
