Vryheid High School – Old scholars excel

Jacomien van Niekerk earned her doctorate in the studies of Afrikaans Literature at the University of Pretoria in April this year. She is also a lecturer in the Afrikaans department at this university. Ons is baie trots op Jacomien!

WE OFTEN report prestigious achievements of current VHS learners, however, we are just as proud of many of our old scholars who have reached great heights in South African society.

One such old-scholar is Jacomien van Niekerk who earned her doctorate in the studies of Afrikaans Literature at the University of Pretoria in April this year. She is also a lecturer in the Afrikaans department at this university. Ons is baie trots op Jacomien!

Another ex-VHS pupil who recognises his beginnings here is Jens Damaske who wrote an inspiring letter to the current VHS learners explaining how the choices you make regarding your tertiary studies influence your eventual success. He was recently awarded Golden Key Membership for his academic achievement which brings with it many benefits such as scholarships, networking and job opportunities. He was studying Computer Engineering at the University of Pretoria, but when he changed his course to Multimedia, he started excelling academically. We are glad about his success and very proud of his achievements.

Due to weather conditions both the tennis and cricket matches of last week were postponed.

Cara Klingenberg is gekies om Mpumalanga te verteenwoordig op die SANESA Nasionale kampioenskappe wat op 8 – 10 Oktober te Misty Meadows (Pretoria) gehou word. Baie sterkte Cara!
