Mark your calendars – our town graces the TV screen on July 8.

It has been confirmed the documentary piece on Newcastle, ahead of the final voting stage for Kwêla Town of the Year 2015, will air at 8pm on kykNET (Channel 144).

Then, the country will get a look at what the Homebrew Productions team was up to.

Reflecting on his experience with the team, businessman Johan Pieters said the idea was to film content relating to religion, textile, history, sport, animals, and community projects.

An interview with the mayor and the balloon ride were also requested.

After making contact with Ferdie Alberts from the Newcastle Municipality, a proposal with suggestions was made to Homebrew Productions as the architects of Kwêla.

From these, the camera team decided where best to capture Newcastle’s essence.

“It was great to see how many companies wanted to be involved over the two days, from filling stations, takeaway outlets, estate agencies, hair stylists and shopping centres.”

Unfortunately, the Homebrew team had only limited time available for the filming of segments for the documentary and could only honour a set number of appointments.

“Thank you to everyone who was involved and wanted to be involved.”

As a side note, Vulintaba Country Estate has made ten prizes of R500 each available for residents casting their vote for Newcastle.

Remember, voting takes place between July 15 and 19.

SMS the word Newcastle 33157 at a cost of R1,50 per SMS, and bear in mind only 30 votes can be cast per cellphone number. “Newcastle is definitely a town to be proud of.”
