The importance of a living will

Old age and death are inevitable realities.

Newcare Women’s Circle hosted Dr Regina Hurley, an anaesthetist, last Wednesday.

Dr Hurley discussed the living will, drawn up when a person was in full possession of their facilities.

A living will is to prevent that you are being kept on prolonged artificial life support when there is no hope of recovery to live a normal life again.

“This relieves a lot of anxiety for loved ones,” Dr Hurley said, as people did not often know what their loved ones would have wanted.

“All the members were very interested and we thank Dr Hurley for spending the morning with us,” said Jasmine Roy, Newcare Women’s Circle chairperson.
