BREAKING NEWS: Airshow plane lands on highway
The N 11 became a landing strip when one of the planes had to perform an emergency landing this morning.
Hundreds of people have already made their way to the Newcastle Airshow, but in the skies one of the pilots on his pre show runs had to land on the N11.
The pilot reportedly experienced engine problems while in the air, and was forced to land using the highway when he realised the danger he was in.
“No one was injured during the landing and it was done quite easily,” said ER24 spokesperson Jan-Henk van Vuuren.
Currently, members of the air show mechanical team and a full escort of traffic officials and police are ensuring the plane is repaired and can take-off safely once more from the national road.
The plane performed the landing on the N11 section which bypasses Newcastle.
