The countdown to the Newcastle Airshow begins…

No one can deny the Newcastle Airshow is shaping up to be somewhat extraordinary.

No one can deny the Newcastle Airshow is shaping up to be somewhat extraordinary.

“The airshow will be full of exciting aircrafts,” said organiser, Johan Pieters. “There will also be motor vehicle exhibitions on the ground and enough food stalls to feed an army!”

Guests can look forward to dramatic and skilled displays by Torres Pitts, EqstraHarvards (including the ToraTora sequence), Goodyear Eagle Pitts, Menno Parsons and crowd favourite, the Mustang P51 flown in formation with Chris Briers in the Menno’s Trojan T28.

Familiar faces, Pierre Gouws in the L29 and Durban’s Martin Schulze in his L29 will return to Newcastle to take the crowd’s breath away once again. The South African Air Force contingent will take to the sky in the Silver Falcons and possibly a Gripen.

Mr Pieters was excited to announce the introduction of a glider aerobatic sequence to the show. The glider will be manned by Gary Whitecross in a Pilatus B4, which is the only one of its kind in South Africa. Gary is also the only aerobatic rated glider pilot in the country.

Two of the countries top aerobatic pilots flying MX2’s, Nigel Hopkins and Mark Hensman, will also show off their unbelievable skills. The Durban YAK team and Impala jet will fly their respective routines.

“There is also a good possibility that a Boeing 737 from Mango will fly a display,” said Mr Pieters. “For a fun filled day, mark May 30 on your calendars!”

Tickets are on sale for R60 per adult and R30 per child under the age of 12.
