Poor service delivery in Lorne Street becomes a hazard

A customer exited Malek's Service Station using the driveway, when the badly damaged storm water drain cover caused the vehicle to get dislodged in the drain

Due to the lack of service delivery in Lorne Street, it is safe to say that the street is a safety hazard to all its users.

This does not seem to faze the municipality, as they have been made aware in more ways than one and on numerous occasions, of the various issues that require urgent attention and nothing has been done.

Last Friday, a customer exited Malek’s Service Station using the driveway when the badly damaged storm water drain cover caused the vehicle to get dislodged in the drain. Gladly, no one was injured but there was damage to the vehicle.

It took seven men to assist in pushing the vehicle out of the drain. This is not the first incident. Previously a woman slipped and fell on the sidewalk, after municipal workers removed the bricks to access a stormwater drain tunnel and had not replaced them.

Earlier this year management of Malek’s Service Station requested that the municipality repair the drain cover, the road, and the sidewalk, collect refuse, unblock drains and clean the gutters.

After no response was received, Malek’s Service Station footed the bill to have the road repaired.
