Security guard stops robbery

With adrenaline rushing, Mr Purchase’s senses were acute and something caught his eye. “It was the security guard who was at posted at the business. He had been beaten, tied up and had a few boxes put on him,” he said.

On Sunday, April 26, Duncan Purchase from Votella Security was lucky to escape injury when a business in the industrial area was targeted by four robbers.

Mr Purchase said he had been on night shift and doing his rounds to ensure security guards at their clients’ property were okay. “When I got to the premises in question, I blew the vehicle’s hooter for the security guard to come out, but he never responded.”

After waiting a few minutes, hooting again and still getting no response, he jumped over the gates to the premises. “I walked slowly, with my firearm out, and when I rounded the building’s corner I saw a man. I screamed for him to stop, but he ran.”

With adrenaline rushing, Mr Purchase’s senses were acute and something caught his eye. “It was the security guard who was at posted at the business. He had been beaten, tied up and had a few boxes put on him,” he said.

Releasing the guard, Mr Purchase investigated the premises to secure the building. Only then he discovered how fortunate he had been.

He found there were actually four perpetrators who fled upon his arrival. A truck, loaded with alcohol had been left behind.

“They managed to flee, but luckily the security guard and I were not injured,” Mr Purchase said.

The police are currently investigating the matter.
