Joint operation targeting drugs yields success in Emmaus

The estimated street value for the recovered drug is over R150 000

A joint operation between the South African Police Service (SAPS) Air Wing and the Bergville SAPS yielded results early on Friday morning.

Police helicopters, busy with training, are gaining practical experience by assisting with stock theft and other operations in the Uthukela Cluster.

South African Police Service (SAPS) Air Wing and the Bergville SAPS partnered to hold a roadblock in Emmaus.

A road block was held in the Emmaus area by police officers from the Bergville SAPS, while the three police helicopters searched in the mountainous areas and located dagga plantations, which were then destroyed.

Over 56 dagga plants were seized during the operation and one person, aged 41, was charged with cultivation of dagga.

Two other people, aged 33 and 41, were arrested for being in possession of loose dagga, which weighed over 1kg. The estimated street value for the recovered drug is over R150 000.

The suspects appeared in the Bergville Magistrate’s Court on March 13.
