GALLERY: Vryheid Cricket Club – Gladiators rise above the challenge

GLADIATORS faced Wicket Wasps in a Kingsmead Mynah’s Cup clash on Sunday, March 15.

On a “challenging” batting pitch at Cecil Emmett Park, the Gladiators won the toss and batted first against Wicket Wasps.

Failing to bat out their 30 overs, the Gladiators were all dismissed for 98 runs in the 18th over with only Mohammed Ashgar (28) and Wikus Janse van Rensburg (22) managing to score runs.

Best bowling figures for Wicket Wasps came from Andrew Brooks (3-2-1-3) and Connor High (5-1-24-2).

In batting, the Wicket Wasps were not able to adapt to the conditions and clever bowling from returning Jackie Delport (6-1-22-3) and a fiery (2-1-7-2) from Mohamed Ashgar saw the Wicket Wasps crumble to 76 all out in the 16th over.

Andrew Brooks (11) was the only Wicket Wasps batsman to get double figures. The Gladiators won by 22 runs.
