He thinks the world hates him

Show him you do care and be considerate with fireworks

Why you hate him?

Tonight is Guy Fawkes and people will indiscriminately set off fireworks late into the evening, leaving hundreds of traumatised animals in their wake as they “ooh” and “aah” at the pretty lights in the sky.

Remember, pets are normally not affected by the pretty lights; it’s the loud bangs that accompany them. The sounds of fireworks going off are very traumatic to a pet, as they are not only loud, but come unexpectedly. So please try and limit the use of fireworks to a reasonable time.

And if you are a dog owner, having someone with your pet through the difficult time is a must. Do not leave them alone!

You chose your pet and with that choice came great responsibility.

Tonight is one of those times when you have to give back.

So do not hate him, show him you love him by being there for him.

The municipality loves him

Municipal bylaws define the term ‘nuisance’ as “any condition, thing, act or omission which is offensive or injurious or which tends to prejudice the safety, good order, peace or health of the area or part thereof or the rights or reasonable comfort, convenience, peace or quiet of any neighbourhood within the area”.

Bylaws also say that “no person shall disturb the public peace in or upon any premises by the production of any sound”.

It is important to note that no time of day or night is mentioned in these bylaws, nor do they refer to the Old Year, New Year, Guy Fawkes or any remembrance or religious occasion as being exempt from the above bylaw.

Any person found to be contravening municipal bylaws will be found guilty of an offence.

Animal Anti-Cruelty League loves him

They will be inundated with lost pet requests tomorrow and will see a larger-than-normal amount of traffic, as dogs found wandering the streets in terror are handed in.
