Two life sentences and a total of 122 years' imprisonment were handed down by various courts

Detectives attached to Family Violence, Child Protection & Sexual Offences (FCS) Units in KwaZulu-Natal recorded astounding successes during the period October 9 to 15.

A total of 101 suspects were arrested for sexual-related offences including kidnapping, abduction, assault, domestic violence, sexual assault, attempted murder, contravention of protection orders and rape cases in the province.

FCS Units in KwaZulu-Natal have a profound reason to celebrate, following these results achieved during the investigation of various sexual-related offences in KZN.

Detectives have been working tirelessly to ensure that those who perpetrate crimes against our women and children are brought to book.

During the same period, there were 12 convictions by various courts in the province after suspects were found guilty of sexual-related offences. Two life sentences and a total of 122 years’ imprisonment was handed down by various courts.

Management at the FCS Units welcomed the maximum sentences handed down in most cases and are happy that justice was delivered to the victims of these crimes.

KZN Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni, applauded these successes and expressed her appreciation to the judicial system which has meted out fitting sentences to rapists. “The sentences handed down will send a clear message to all sexual predators that KwaZulu-Natal police will endeavour with all their resources to prevent crimes against women and children to make this province a safer place for everyone,” she said.
