SIX suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder of a 34 year old man from the Ntababomvu area.

According to a report by The Citizen, at approximately 7:00pm on Sunday, December 14, Malusi Sikhakhane  was on his way to a local tuck shop when he was attacked by a group of people, police said.

He was allegedly assaulted with sticks and stabbed repeatedly by his attackers.

Police say the victim was taken to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his extensive injuries.

A case of murder was opened at Mondlo Police Station for further investigation and, within 24 hours of the incident, detectives traced and arrested the suspects believed to be responsible for the malicious attack on Sikhakhane.

The motive for the killing remains unknown.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Mmamonnye Ngobeni, commended Mondlo police for a speedy arrest of the suspects as part of Festive Season operations.

“We are appealing to the community to behave themselves and not to get involved in any criminal activities during this Festive Season,” said Ngobeni.

All six suspects aged between 16 and 21 are due to appear in the Nqutu Magistrates’ Court soon.
