Five men arrested following farm attack

One of the suspects was injured during a shoot out with the police.

Five men were arrested, following a farm attack outside Memel this afternoon.

The incident occurred shortly after 2.30pm, when six suspects entered the farm premises.

According to the Vrede Rekord, police and neighbouring farmers were able to react before anyone was hurt, thanks to farm workers who contacted the authorities when the incident took place.

However, the men escaped in the farmer’s Toyota Hilux and a smaller vehicle and fled towards Memel.

At Memel, the suspects in the smaller vehicle were pushed off the road and gun fire was exchanged between them and police officers.

One suspect was injured during the shoot out and taken to Vrede hospital by ER24 paramedics. Allegedly a total of three men were arrested.

The men in the Toyota Hilux managed to elude escape until the R34, where they apparently found their escape blocked by the stop and go.

According to the Vrede Rekord, one of the two remaining suspects was then apprehended. The last suspect is still at large.
