Update: 2 trucks and car collide on N11
The jaws-of-life had to be used to cut through the wreckage so that the occupant could be freed
2 trucks and a VW Golf collided this afternoon along the N11, leaving 9 people injured.
All 3 vehicles veered off the roadway after the collision, the VW Golf on 1 side and the trucks on the opposite side.
1 truck was on top of the other, trapping 1 of the occupants in the wreckage. A breakdown truck had to lift the heavy vehicle off the other so that paramedics and rescue workers could free the trapped accident victim. The jaws-of-life then had to be used to cut through the mangled wreckage, taking paramedics almost an hour.
The trapped occupant was treated at the scene for moderate injuries and then transported to hospital.
Traffic was not delayed, but vehicles passed the scene with caution, overseen by RTI officers.
The road itself and the side of the road is littered with oil and debris from the crash.
EMS, Sharaj Ambulance Services, ER24, police and the Ladysmith Fire Department were at the scene.
Breakdown services also responded to remove the damaged trucks.
