The residents of the Shoba area, just outside of Vryheid as one heads towards Hlobane have been given a 30 days notice to vacate the land and find new homes.

The residents, who moved to the settlement three years ago were still waiting patiently for their area to be developed as it had no electricity or tar roads.

They were met with the shocking news on Monday last week when people, who are believed to have been departmental officials, went house to house delivering these notices warning them to leave the area within 30 days or legal action will be taken.

“We were told that the settlement had been illegally started,” said one of the residents.

The people of Shoba bought squares of land with prices ranging from R6000 to R8000 depending on the size of the land and started building their homes from a local three years ago.

More details will follow as the story unfolds.
