Van Reenen police are shining examples to us all

"Imagine my surprise when they phoned me, informing me that my cell and other stuff had been found and the suspects had been arrested"

Gerard Smal is very impressed with Van Reenen police after his car was broken into during an overnight stop at a B&B.

Gerard was travelling from Durban to Lesotho last Friday (September 18), but due to heavy rain and mist on Van Reenen’s Pass, he decided to stop for the night at a local bed and breakfast.

He got a nasty surprise on Saturday morning when he discovered that his car had been broken into and various articles stolen (wine, whisky and his cell-phone).

“I reported the theft at the local police station and thought nothing would come of it.

“The officers impressed me by being very prompt and professional in their taking down of my statement,” says Mr Smal.

“Imagine my surprise when, a short while later, I received a phone call from the local investigating officer, Const Gumbi, informing me that my cell and other stuff had been found and the suspects had been arrested.

“I just could not believe it! I was bowled over that our South African police are so quick and so prompt. I even took the time to phone the area commissioner, Brig Marais , and congratulated her on her team’s performance in Van Reenen.”
