Almost 500 Harley Davidson motorcycles made their way to the Northern Drakensberg for their 13th annual Steel Wings Rally. National Chairman of Steel Wings, Pieter Groenewald and his wife Corinne were pleased with the turnout.

“18 of the 19 Steel Wings chapters attended the rally. This year’s rally is called ‘Thunderberg’. And it was a blast, as usual. We rented out the entire Alpine Heath for the weekend and from there the festivities continued,” says Corinne.

On Saturday morning the bikers were split into two more manageable groups.  The first stop on their outride from Alpine Heath was the Tower of Pizza for a poker run. And the second group stopped at Bingelela just outside Bergville for some good old fashioned sports.

“The rally is basically a team building, the chapters are far spread across the country and this gives us the opportunity to get together and have some fun,” adds Corrine.

A member of the Bloemfontein chapter Markus Oberholzer adds that only Harley Davidson motorcycles are allowed at the rally.

“Steel Wings is a Harley club, it is the only requirement. You have to have a passion for Harleys and the people who drive them.”
