More water cuts on the way

This shortage will affect residents of both Newcastle West and East.

Residents can expect another two days of water shortages this week, as two of the raw water pipe lines supplying the Ngagane water plant will be isolated.

This shortage will affect residents of both Newcastle West and East and will be caused by a Department of Water Affairs inspection. The department will be inspecting and assessing the Service Gates at the Ntshingwayo (Chelmsford) Dam on February 24.

The isolation of these pipelines will result in a 70 percent short supply of raw water to the plant over an eight-hour period.

Municipal officials confirmed the supply of potable water would be affected, with outages expected to occur late on February 24 and undoubtedly throughout the day and continuing until late evening, on February 25.

The municipality has requested residents to use water sparingly and not to water gardens on these days.

A statement issued by the municipal Communications Department, apologised to residents for the inconvenience and referred further inquiries to Water Services Call Centre: 0860 144 144
