SENZELO Mlangeni (18) and Andile Radebe (20) appeared in Nqutu Magistrate’s Court on Monday, September 29.

The two accused faced charges of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, common robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

On Saturday, September 27, at approximately 5:45pm, the suspects went to the eMondlo Municipal offices under the guise of buying electricity.

An argument ensued between the security guard and the two suspects, who then assaulted and overpowered the security guard.

It is alleged that the security guard’s service firearm fell off as they were attacking him.

The suspects fled with the firearm, leaving the injured security guard on the scene.

After an investigation by eMondlo SAPS, the suspects were arrested and charged after they were found in possession of the stolen firearm.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended police at eMondlo for the swift arrests.

“We cannot allow members of the community to behave in such a manner.

“The fact that they deprived the security officer of his firearm is an indication of a deeper underlying criminal propensity,” she said.
