ALL eyes were on Pretoria High Court today, where the verdict in the high profile case of the state vs  Oscar Pistorius has finally been delivered.

Pistorius (27), a world famous paralympian athlete, known for being the first disabled athlete to cross over into the able-bodied Olympics, stood trial for shooting his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, on February 14, 2013, claiming he mistook her for an intruder.

After months of intense analysis and investigation, the court case, which was publicly broadcast across the globe, has come to a gripping conclusion.

On September 11, Judge Thokozile Masipa told the court that there was not enough evidence to prove beyond reasonable doubt that the athlete was guilty of premeditated murder or murder.

The world waited with bated breath, as court was adjourned for the day.

Judge Masipa handed down her verdict this morning, September 12.

On the count of culpable homicide, Pistorius was found guilty. He was also found guilty on one firearms charge, but acquitted on two others.

Pistorius could face up to 15 years in jail on the culpable homicide charge.

With that Oscar Pistorius can leave the court and return to his uncle’s house, where he has been staying since selling the house in which he shot Reeva Steenkamp.

He will return on 13 October for up to three days of mitigation arguments, before the judge will pass sentence at a later date.
