IMRAAN, one of our club members, visited Bivane Dam on August 28, along with his son, Hamza, who brought along a friend to enjoy the wonderful bass fishing this dam has to offer.

It is a vast lake with beautiful drop-offs and rocky, boulder strewn water.

With dead trees and natural ravines, the area has the perfect structure, if you are targeting big bass. The trio were in for a treat, as they found a pod of early breeding bass on the rocky bed of the bank in deeper water. Imraan caught his biggest bass for the day at just under 3kg and young Hamza caught a bass of 2.6kg.

The earlier tendency to congregate on the bass’ favourite spots shows that the water temperature has been rising at a steady pace and most other fisherman have noticed that the ‘big mamas’ are getting ready for an earlier spawn this year in most of the club waters.

Keep fishing, as this time of year, you can never be sure when your next bite might be a trophy fish.

Young Hamza's catch, at 2.6kg, is not far behind his father's impressive 3kg bass.
