Municipal manager’s killers caught?

Provincial Taxi Violence Task Team nabs suspected killers

The Provincial Taxi Violence Task Team made a breakthrough when they arrested two suspects for the killing of Indaka municipal manager Sinatra Khumalo (53).

The suspects were arrested in the Ladysmith area on Saturday, August 8, and one of them was found in possession of an unlicensed 9mm pistol. The recovered firearm will be sent for ballistic tests to establish if it was used in any other crimes in the province. The arrested suspects, aged 27 and 33, are due to appear today (August 11) in the Ezakheni Magistrate’s Court.

On July 16 at about 5.20pm, the municipal manager of Indaka Local Municipality was travelling in his motor vehicle along Helpmekaar Road. In the Intshele area, he was ambushed by three gunmen. He was shot and killed, suffering wounds to the head and body. The victim was identified as Sinatra Khumalo (53).

A case of murder was opened by Ezakheni SAPS for further investigation. The Provincial Taxi Violence Task Team was tasked to take over the docket and through hard work, the officers arrested two suspects.

KwaZulu-Natal SAPS management welcomes the arrest of the suspects. “We appreciate the good work done by the team that led to the arrest of these suspects and the recovery of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.”

More arrests are expected to be made.
