A LOCAL couple is still shaken after being attacked in the late afternoon yesterday. According to Clifford and Alicia (who wish for their surnames to not be mentioned for safety reasons), they had just got back to their home and were going about their daily routines when Clifford saw a man standing outside the door with a weapon in his hand. “I panicked because the door wasn’t locked and Alicia was taking a bath so I feared the man might come in and attempt to rape her,” said Clifford. The man, who is said to have not been wearing a mask, forcefully entered the house. Clifford then tried to fight him off and it is here that the man called out for his accomplices to come and help him. During the struggle, the man gashed Clifford badly just over his right eye with the knife. The couple screamed for help and say that within 20 minutes the Neighbourhood Watch had arrived to help them. The suspects made off with nothing as the couple is new in town, and say that they currently don’t have much furniture yet. The couple said that they were very grateful to the Neighbourhood Watch for their help and they have reported the matter to the Vryheid SAPS. Clifford had to have 10 stitches done to close up the wound. According to the SAPS’s Major Mbatha, they are currently looking for three suspects in connection with several house-break in cases. According to Mbatha, it could be the same suspects who attacked Clifford and Alicia. Community members who may have any details that could lead to the arrests of these suspects are urged to contact the Vryheid SAPS. break inweb
