IFP members shot and killed in CBD

"These people are simply hooligans who are using party names to resolve their personal issues”

Two Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) members were shot and killed on Friday afternoon. Siyanda Mnguni was accosted by four men at a tavern behind Connor Street at about 4pm. Shortly thereafter he was shot and killed.

30 minutes later, it is believed the same murderer, struck again in the central business district, at the intersection of Alexandra and Harding Streets. According to IFP Estcourt Constituency Chairperson Mthembeni Majola, his brother Thokozani Majola was killed in a hail of bullets in the bustling street.

The deceased was wearing an IFP T-shirt and Mr Mthembeni Majola said it was alleged that the murderer was wearing an African national Congress (ANC) T-shirt.

“We are very confused about these murders because we cannot say it is being committed by another political party. These people are simply hooligans who are using party names to resolve their personal issues,” said an emotional Mr Majola.

He added that a case has been opened at the Estcourt Police Station. Meanwhile IFP National Chairperson Blessed Gwala, MPL has also expressed concern about the murders, especially as South Africa approaches Local Government Elections on August 3.

“These acts of killings do not only undermine the democratic right of voters but such acts are reversing the gains we have made in stabilising the province of KwaZulu-Natal,” commented Mr Gwala.
