Illegal dumping causes fire

A firefighter quickly spread out the burning grass so it wouldn't burn anything else

Illegal dumping in Anchor Road caused a huge veld fire on Thursday night, which was first spotted by a worker in the area.

How the fire started is unknown at this stage, but it seems that a large pile of grass and other refuse was set alight by a passerby on the road.

The Ladysmith Fire Department was alerted by a worker in the area, who was afraid the fire might spread and cause major damage to the workshops that are in Anchor Road.

A firefighter quickly spread out the burning grass so it wouldn’t burn anything else.

The fire was sprayed down and completely extinguished.

No injuries were sustained, and the fire didn’t spread or cause any damage to workshops in the area.
