Five Cent Piece looks back on 2014

Twenny-fa-teen has been an absolute roller coaster year for Five Cent Piece.

From dodging rocks thrown by irate municipal workers, struggling to hear the editor after an episode with a stun grenade and many tears right down to smiles and laughs with friends and the joys of fatherhood.

This year has been a rather successful year for this aspiring journalist, albeit one of the most difficult and challenging years so far.

As easy as it is to take credit for achievements and pat oneself on the back, the truth is Five Cent Piece could never have survived the year without help, support and inspiration from friends and colleagues.

They have seen Five Cent Piece down and out, exhausted and frustrated. Yet they have been the driving force and the motivation for this hack to strive for more. To all of you, I say thank you.

However, any form of success is not without failure. The year end brings about a serious time with Five Cent Piece making many mistakes, while trying to think of ways to fix all that is broken.

The festive season beckons. This journo eyes the last deadline of the year with apprehension and some relief. It has been a long, trying year. But it has been a good year. A lot has been learned, and many more lessons are yet to come.

The journey of life is not easily trodden. Although old ways and memories seem easily forgotten in the heat of the moment, the heartbeat remains the same heartbeat that started it all.

With this in mind, Five Cent Piece has decided to be resolute about one thing come the next cycle of days, weeks and months.

It is time to buckle up, bite the bullet and shoulder the wheel. Taking responsibility for one’s actions is paramount, and Five Cent Piece plans to do just that.

To the readers who follow the weekly ramblings of an old soul with many adolescent tendencies, thank you.
