UPDATE: Bottle found on driver not alcohol

Security vehicle leaves a 65 meter long path of destruction before crashing on top of a residents' parked car.

A quiet night held quite a shock for Mr Adeboyejo Omobowale and his family on Thursday, December 17.

During the early hours of the morning, at around 4am, his family was awoken by a loud crash just outside their house on 122 Scott Street.

Going out to investigate, they found that a security patrol vehicle bearing two security guards had veered off the road and landed mere centimetres from their lounge window.

Driving up Scott Street, the driver of the vehicle allegedly hit a speed hump at high speed, causing it to go airborne. The vehicle landed on the left hand side pavement with its momentum still intact, and ploughed through the steel fence of a neighbouring property.

It didn’t stop there; the vehicle continued its path of destruction, with the fence still in tow, and battered through the concrete palisade fencing separating Mr Omobowale’s property from his neighbour’s.

The vehicle then struck a tree, collided with and somersaulted over Mr Omobowale’s personal vehicle parked in his front yard, before coming to a stop just a few centimetres away from his lounge window, approximately 65 meters from the speed hump.

“It is alleged the driver of the vehicle was drunk; a photo of what is thought to be a bottle of alcohol was photographed in his pocket.”

UPDATE: According to an official source, it is alleged that the Newcastle SAPS has stated the bottle found in the driver’s pocket was not alcohol, but traditional herbal medication.

Local EMRS officials confirm admitting one of the passengers, a 22-year-old male, to the Madadeni Provincial Hospital who was suffering from severe back pain.
